In some areas of the country, an HVAC unit that conks out in summer is a minor inconvenience. However, when heat waves hit Texas in the summer, a malfunctioning A/C unit can be a disaster on many levels. Not only is the brutal heat a health hazard, the cost of repairing your broken air conditioning unit can be scorching too.

According to Home Advisor, the average cost for A/C repairs is $316, and may go as high as $900 or more in some situations. Add in the premium a repairman might charge to come to your home when demand for his services is high, or to repair the problem quickly, and A/C repair costs can leave you feeling burned. There is nothing worse than being hot in your own home during the summer. That is why it is so important for you to get your HVAC system up and running as soon as possible. It is always a good idea to have it checked on during the winter to help you avoid having issues down the road. I should definitely have mine looked at soon.

It caught my attention when it mentioned that repairing a broken unit can be "scorching" as well.  I can imagine that people would probably want to make sure that their unit was working properly so as to avoid potential problems in the future.  However, it might be a good idea to look into different options to make sure that you know what would work for you. http://www.temperaturecontrolsinc.com/financing.php

I didn't realize that some air conditioning repairs could be so expensive. Maybe I should get my unit checked on before the heat comes. It is always better to prevent these problems, than to repair them after the fact. http://www.thermo-tech.ca

We're thinking about getting a technician to look at our home's furnace. It has been making clicking noises and cutting out from working from time to time. I wonder what that could be! Would you suggest to buy a new system, or have it repaired depending on the price?

I know a lot of people who have decided to try to tough it out when their air conditioner breaks. It really is hard to get these things repaired sometimes. I think it's essential to get this taken care of though. It can be hazardous to ignore this repair, especially if you live somewhere where the heat is overwhelming. I know I would do anything I could to repair my air conditioner quickly.

It would seem like most people nowadays have some form of cooling their homes when it gets cold.   That being said, it would probably be a good idea to make sure that your systems are working in a way that fits your needs.  Thankfully there seem to be services out there that can help with things like that. http://www.bollshvac.biz/heating_cooling

@CaseyJones1 I agree that it would be unfortunate to have air conditioner issues when it is such a hot day. Somebody told me that the best times to have your unit looked at is in the fall and spring. That way, you know if there are any potential issues before and after the time that you are using it the most. http://www.allzoneac.com

I liked how you mentioned that in some parts of the country, heat waves can hit unexpectedly.   I would imagine that when that happens, you might want to have an AC unit that is working right.   The last thing someone would probably want is to have issues keeping their home cool. http://www.a2zheatingandplumbing.com/our-services.html

I'm actually pretty impressed with the prices of heating and air conditioning repair. I've been pretty pleased with the services I've received so far as well. If you can find reliable service, then it wouldn't even matter to pay a little extra. you end up saving in the long run if it is done correctly.  http://www.lmac.com.au/services

When I was a kid there was a summer where my house's air conditioning broke and it was awful. It was so hot and it took over a week to get it fixed. So I want to make sure that doesn't happen to my kids. I had no idea that repair cost go up in the summer time. It seems like it would be smart to get your air conditioning unit repair before the summer heat hits.

My air conditioner went out a few summers ago and I thought I was going to die in the heat. It really is a health issue when it gets that hot. I had to hang out in the frozen food section of the local grocery store during the day until the repair man could get to my house. Repairs are definitely something to avoid if at all possible. <a href='http://www.clearzoneservices.com/en/exhaust_dryer_vent_cleaning.html' >http://www.clearzoneservices.com/en/exhaust_dryer_vent_cleaning.html Clearzone Services</a>

It is true that if your HVAC is out of commission in the summer, you are in trouble. I remember when my HVAC broke in the middle of summer. It got really hot in the house. Luckily I found a repairman quickly and he was able to fix it. Hopefully, that will never happen again.

Thank you guys for the great advice. For some reason my heating system has been acting really weird. It just can't keep my house warm anymore, and I'm honestly starting to get really sick of it. I'd like to get this fixed as soon as possible, so how much do you guys think it would cost me to have someone stop by tomorrow?

Luckily it is still a bit chilly in my area. The article reminded me that I should get my HVAC checked before the scorching hot gets to me. This will also save me money in the long run because getting it maintenanced is cheaper than replacing. http://www.buckeyeappliances.com/services.html

I just moved to Texas and I wasn't completely sure what the service would be since the temperature is pretty hot over here and it its more stress on the units. Thanks for letting me know that the service is good and that it is 24 hours. I am a lot more relaxed knowing that I will get service a lot better then I did on my last home. http://www.advancedcarestatesboro.com/air-conditioning

Before summer starts I really want to make sure that my air conditioning is working. There is nothing worse than going through the summer without air conditioning. I tend to get hot really easily, so I am constantly in need of air. Hopefully this summer we will be able to go all season without any problems.

I like how you mentioned getting furnace repairs in the summer. I find that this is the best time of the year for those services. There is no rush to complete the job, and there usually isn't a waiting period parts. I bet winter is the best time to repair your air conditioning system.

I never really thought about getting a protection plan for an HVAC system. It does make sense though, we have insurance on basically everything these days. I'd be curious to see exactly what things the protection policy covers and what it doesn't cover.  http://www.a-ccontractors.com

There are a few appliances I have that need some tune ups. I've found that the best appliances seldom need repairs. Unfortunately, not many of mine fall under that category. This means I end up having to do quite a few repairs.

I didn't know that you could purchasing protection plans for your furnace and air conditioner.  My sister bought a house a year ago and now her furnace and air conditioner both need to be replaced.  I wish I would have heard about this type of plan sooner so she could get her equipment replaced.  Maybe a protection plan would help her in the future. <a href='http://www.buildinspectandcontract.com' > http://www.buildinspectandcontract.com</a>

I really respect you guys for offering your services 24/7! When you live in a climate that requires AC so much it makes a lot of sense. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. My climate requires a lot of heating. Hopefully I can find a similar HVAC service in my area! I could really use a good heating service! http://springerbros.net/heating-services/2871773

Where we live, it frequently gets into the 100s during the summer.  I agree that the AC going out in the summer could be a huge problem.  I would hate to be without my AC during 100 degree weather.  I will have my HVAC guy check out my AC and make sure it is working well before summer hits.

Okay, first off, that kid is absolutely the cutest thing! You know, getting a protection product would really work for you in the end. Sometimes the weather messes with out electrical setups at our house. I'm just seeing if an electrician could find some open spot that's an issue where the weather can effect it.

I lived in Texas for a little while. It sure does get hot there during the summer. I would have lost my mind if I didn't have an air conditioner. It is very useful to have a working one at all times. Do you have any tips for performing maintenance on our systems? http://www.lucedfurnaces.com/air-conditioning.html

I lived in Texas for a couple years when I was in college, and I couldn't believe the heat! People talk about it, but it's something completely different to experience. Mine HVAC was certainly working overtime when I was down there. | www.pro-staffmechanical.com

When you are stuck in the sweltering heat without central air, your life can be quite miserable. It is important to have a professional look over your unit. They can ensure that your air conditioning is installed and operating properly.

It's always much better to prevent something from happening than to have to fix it later. I've learned that the hard way too many times. We're making sure that our HVAC system was in full maintenance very 6 months or before the next season starts. I hope we don't have any problems, but I'm sure we'll be ok. The system isn't that old at all.

It would be awful to have your A/C go out in the middle of the summer. What might be worse would be your heater going out when it's below freezing outside. Thanks for letting me know the average costs of repairs so I can prepare a small emergency fund for it. http://www.comfortsolutionscooling.com/faq.php

AngelaKillpack

@jaytoolman92 I agree that both situations are less than desirable! A lot of people don't like being in uncomfortable temperatures in their own homes. If my heater were to go out now, I would have to layer every blanket I own on top of me to sleep at night. And Jay, it's a good idea to have a small emergency fund prepared anyway for anything that might come up.  http://www.honestairinc.com/ac-repair-replacement

Its true that getting your AC repaired can be quite expensive, especially if it has lots of problems. Thats why it is important that you give proper maintenance to all your electrical appliances; it is better to spend little on the upkeep of your home rather than a lot when all your electric appliances break down. I use a great company called http://www.ibuildengineering.com/electrical-engineering/ which are quite affordable and provide high quality service.
