From chimpanzees to zebras, the Houston Zoo is home to 6,000 animals and provides educational tours and experiences for all ages. Some fun facts from the Houston Zoo:
- 18,000,000 crickets are used every year to feed frogs, chameleons, geckos and other animals.
- 80,000 heads of lettuce are used to feed various animals including giraffes that eat as much as 140 pounds in a weekend!
- 10,660 bales of hay are consumed by animals like elephants that eat about 15 bales a day!
That’s a lot of mouths to feed and the zoo needs your help.
Here at TXU Energy, we’re a proud supporter of the Houston Zoo. Recently we partnered with the zoo in the presentation of the Gift of Grub – a campaign to raise funds for the animals’ 2012 meals. For donations made through our Gift Of Grub campaign, TXU Energy provides matching funds – dollar-for-dollar – up to a total limit of $25,000. But hurry, this fundraising event only runs until the end of this year! Visit the Houston Zoo’s Web site and give the Gift of Grub – donate now through the Houston Zoo or through TXU Energy Local Impact.
