Through our Committed to Community Growth program, we work with long-time community partner, Texas Trees Foundation, to create healthy communities through tree planting. Together, we grow and maintain the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm and Education Center, the largest nonprofit urban tree farm in the nation. Since 2002, we have planted trees across the Lone Star State, and this week we planted our 200,000th tree at the State Capitol in Austin.
Officials from the Office of Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas State Preservation Board and Texas State Forester Tom Boggus helped us celebrate the newly planted 30-foot Live Oak tree on the Texas State Capitol grounds. Janette Monear, executive director of Texas Trees Foundation, spoke of the value and importance of trees have on the community.
For over a dozen years, employee volunteers from TXU Energy and other community organizations have donated their time and planted these 200,000 trees across Texas. Each year, hundreds of volunteers, including TXU Energy employees and leadership, plant thousands of seedlings at the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm.
By planting a tree, we’re putting down roots that help communities become more sustainable. We’re leaving a legacy for future generations while creating healthy and beautiful communities that make a difference today.
